I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

A lot of appliances and fixtures have taps that you can turn off. For example, the toilet will have an isolating valve below or beside the cistern. If you can’t find a valve, or that does not stop the leak, then turn off the mains water valve to stop all water to the home.

Once that’s sorted, give our team a ring, no matter what the day or time is. We’ll be with you shortly to fix the leak.

While you wait for our plumber to arrive, begin mopping up any water, place a container to catch drips, and clear away significant things from the area. If the mains water is turned off, also switch off the heating for the hot water.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!
